Saturday May 3 White Oak Sinks, GSMNP. This is a easy to moderate 5 mile hike with very little elevation gain. We’ll begin our hike at School House Gap entrance. We’ll hike to The Sinks and make our way to where the bat cave is located. There is much to see in this area including remnants of old homesteads, beautiful flowers and a very nice waterfall. After taking in the sights, we‘ll make our way back to our cars. Let‘s meet at Brown‘s Creek Shopping Center parking lot in Maryville (close to the Sonic) at 8:00 am EDT. We expect to be at the trailhead about 9:00am EDT. Don‘t forget to bring water, snacks and money for carpooling. Please preregister with Rosemary_L@hotmail.com or 865.985.9144 .

Saturday May 10 Sharps Ridge Veterans Memorial Park, Knoxville, TN. Come join us on this moderate 4 +/- mile hike. Sharps Ridge offers one of the best views of our city from its overlook. There is limited parking at the trailhead, so we will meet at Shoney’s on Broadway parking area at 9:00 am ET and carpool a short distance to the trailhead. Pre-registration is advised. Books-A-Million parking lot
Saturday May 17, North Boundary Trail, Oak Ridge TN. We’ll touch on several different trails but they’re all easy, no significant elevation changes. We’ll past through woodlands and see Creekside habitats showcasing a variety of wildlife and natural plants as well as remnants, stairs, building foundations and other remains of pre-Manhattan project settlements. Also, we’ll see parts of the Quarry, the Quarry Lake and old cemeteries. The hike is about 6 miles. We’ll meet in Oak Ridge at the Books-A-Million parking lot nearest Illinois Ave for carpooling to the trail head because parking is limited, leaving at 9:00am. Saturday May 24 Big Ridge State Park, Maynardville TN– This park has approximately 15 miles of outstanding hiking trails. We will hike about 6 miles on several different trails. All trails are filled with lots of history and beautiful lake views. We will begin our hike at the Big Valley trailhead and pass the Ghost House loop before connecting to the Dark Hollow Trail. Dark Hollow connects to Lakeview that borders on a very scenic portion of the lake. We’ll also find small family cemeteries that are very interesting. For those who want to carpool, we will meet at 9:00 am at the Ingle‘s parking lot on Cedar Lane off the Merchants Rd exit of I-75 North. We should arrive at Big Ridge State Park, Old Mill parking area by 10:00 am. Be sure to bring $$ for carpooling. Please pre register with Rosie 865.985.9144 or rosemary_L@hotmail.com

Saturday May 31 Middle Prong to Indian Flats Falls, GSMNP. This hike is 7.4 miles in and out with approximately 1,000 feet elevation gain. You‘ll see a gorgeous waterfall, cascades and history galore. This trail was a former railroad bed for a lumber camp. It still has the remains of a rusting Cadillac at mile 2.0. At 3.7 miles we‘ll see the Indian Flat falls. We‘ll meet at 9:00 am et in Maryville at the Browns Creek Shopping Center in the parking area close to Sonic. Don’t forget to bring $$$ for carpooling.
